Trade area reach can be an important component of your inventory – it defines, using your customer file, the precise neighborhoods served by each of your locations (including ATMs) and characterizes those neighborhoods by key demographic data including size, growth, retail segment composition, target business presence and level of crime risk. Inclusion of trade areas in your inventory allows you to begin linking previously disparate sources of information on your network. For example, you can now evaluate the level and type of security equipment currently used and what, in addition, may be needed. Segmenting neighborhoods allows you to do so and is especially important if you are managing networks in excess of 100 locations. In addition, once a trade is defined for each of your locations, your penetration and share-of-wallet can be measured, and combining this with other trade area characteristics, can prove valuable as you plan micro-market sales and marketing programs.
